Marc MAES website
Studeerde aan de Hogeschool Gent, departement muziek en drama. Marc Maes is en exquisite organist and harpsichord player as well. He studied the harsichord with John Whitelaw and the organ with Frans De Geest and Dirk Verschraegen at the Ghent Royal Conservatory. During his studies he was particularly active in the classes and ensembles around Marcel Ketels (ancient music) and Godfried-Willem Raes (avant-garde chambermusic and improvisation). With the latter, he also took classes in composition. His repertoire as an organist comprises a remarkable repertoire in the area of 20th century music, including the most recent compositions written for the organ. He has performed many recitals devoted to contemporary music. As a performer he can be heard together with flutist Karin De Fleyt on the CD <Logos: Works>, published on the American label XI. He is very active on the music scene and in particular as a founding member of the Jan Kooi ensemble, where he plays the keyboard instruments. Right now, he took up further studies in instrument building. He is one of the collaborators in the design and realisation of Logos' computercontrolled modular classical organ. He participated in the construction of <Boudonola>, the bass register completing our <Piperola> module. At this time he is working on the construction of the quartertone pipes for <Puff>, a novel and experimental percussive robot organ. You can get in contact with him by email.
